Nailpolish colors for toes

Question: I'm going to a wedding and I'm wearing a purple spaghetti strap, long dress with a slit in the back with black strappy sandals that are about 2 1/2" high. What color of toe polish do I wear? I'm having a French Manicure on my hands, will that look tacky on my toes or is there a color that is more appropriate?
Sheri

Answer: It's okay to have a different color on your toenails versus your fingernails. However, you will look classier if the colors blend or if they're similar in tone. Since a French manicure is light in tone, go with a medium to light colored polish for your toenails. With a French manicure, you have somewhat of a choice regarding the color. It can be either a whitish tone or a slightly pink tone. For a purple dress, I suggest the slightly pink tone for your French manicure. Depending upon the shade of purple that your dress is, you can then choose a pink color in the light to medium range for your toenails. With that, select a pink-tone color that has blue undertones, one that leans just slightly toward a violet hue, but one that is not an obvious lavender shade.

Since you are wearing black strappy sandals, I am assuming that your dress is not a pastel, but instead a medium to deeper shade of purple. If you dress is a fairly dark purple, go with a medium shade of pink for your toes. If your dress is a light purple, go with a lighter pink shade. Keep in mind, that your overall toenail color should not be too dark in tone to blend with the French manicure.

In my opinion, the French manicure style looks strange on toenails, almost as if they're not really done. With that, it's a waste of your pedicure dollars. And you really don't want that effect for a dressy wedding.

Another look that is beautiful with pastels or light colors is an iridescent whitish color on your toenails and the whitish French manicure for your hands. But, I only recommend that if your dress is a light shade of purple and if your shoe color is a metallic tone (pewter or light gold), not black.

Best Regards,
